Fit a quick work out in during your lunch break:

If you get to enjoy a lunch break, it’s well worth stretching your legs and going out for a power walk during your lunch break. Alternatively, you may be able to fit a 30 minute jog into your hour long lunch break or you may be able to complete a quick gym workout at your nearest gym. Even if you don’t have time to change out of your business attire, you should have plenty of time to go for a short walk. Which will be highly beneficial and will break up the time which you’ll spend sitting at your desk for a large fraction of your day.

Complete short hand, leg and neck exercises every hour:

Every hour make sure to complete a few short hand and leg exercises. It’s especially important to exercise your hands as if you type for extended periods of time without a break, you’ll increase your chances of developing a repetitive strain injury. In order to avoid straining your neck staring at your computer for several hours in a row, also make sure to slowly turn your head left and right and looking up and down every hour. To ensure that your neck doesn’t become stiff.

Consider spending some of your working day at a standing desk:

While it wouldn’t be comfortable to work at a standing desk for 9 hours in a row, you may want to spend parts of each working day working at a standing desk. So that you’ll get a chance to stretch out your legs.

Opt to consume healthy home made lunches instead of purchasing unhealthy junk food:

Instead of eating junk food for lunch it’s a far healthier idea to prepare healthy lunches at home. Examples of healthy lunch options which you may be interested in trialling out include salad breaks, turkey salad and sushi. As a bonus, not only will you avoid putting on extra weight but if you consume healthy foods for lunch, your body will ingest essential vitamins and nutrients, which will help you stay alert and focused, during a long work day.

Fit a work out in first thing in the morning:

If you know that you’ll be too tired to workout at the end of a 9 hour work day, it’s a smart idea to set your alarm an hour earlier. So that you’ll be able to fit in a 30-60 minute workout, first thing in the morning. As an added benefit you should enjoy a rush of endorphins after you complete your early morning workout, which should help you make the most out of your time in your office.

So if you are determined to stay healthy while working at a desk job or in your home office, it’s well worth using some of the lifestyle tips listed above in order to maintainer increase your health and fitness levels.
